The Charlotte Bobcats acquired Nazr Mohammed from Detroit on Friday in exchange for Primoz Brezec and Walter Herrmann. In addition, the Bobcats have rescinded their D-League assignment for Jermareo Davidson.
Mohammed has appeared in 21 games for the Pistons this season and averaged 3.3 points, 3.5 rebounds in 10.9 minutes.
The 6-10, 250-pound center has appeared in 538 career NBA games (244 starts) and averaged 6.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 18.2 minutes, while shooting .482 from the field. His nine-year NBA career has included stints with Philadelphia, Atlanta, New York, San Antonio and Detroit.
“Nazr brings the type of big body, experience and athleticism that we been looking to add to our team,” Bobcats General Manager Rod Higgins said. “Having evaluated our roster from top to bottom, we felt it necessary to make this move and bring in a guy who could immediately help this franchise.”
Initially drafted by Utah in the first round (29th overall pick) of the 1998 NBA Draft, Mohammed’s draft rights were traded to Philadelphia. Mohammed played three seasons at the University of Kentucky and captured two NCAA Championships in 1996 and 1988.
Brezec was chosen by the Bobcats in the Charlotte Expansion Selection on June 22, 2004. In four seasons, Brezec appeared in 229 games (209 starts) for Charlotte, including 20 games in 2007-08. He averaged 9.8 points and 5.2 rebounds in 24.2 minutes. The Slovenian native was initially drafted by Indiana with the 27th overall pick in the 2000 NBA Draft and played three seasons with the Pacers before being selected by Charlotte.
Herrmann signed with the Bobcats as a free agent prior to the 2006-07 season after playing six seasons in his native country of Argentina and four seasons in Spain. Last season, Herrmann appeared in 48 games and averaged 9.2 points and 2.9 rebounds, while shooting .461 from three-point range. In 17 games this season, he averaged 4.0 points and 2.1 rebounds.
